Zum Goethebrunnen in Weimar

We were once again in the Schmales Handtuch, as the restaurant "Zum Goethebrunnen" is affectionately known by the locals, for dinner and we were looking forward to a pleasant start to the weekend. The dining room was well filled with the exception of two tables, and the outside terrace was already empty. There were small reserved signs on both empty tables, which could well be possible given the popularity of the pub. Upon request, we were allowed to take a seat at one of these two tables. Drinks and food were quickly selected and ordered. While we were waiting, we noticed a very strange atmosphere that made us brood. Some guests paid and left. Usually the table is then emptied and cleaned as quickly as possible so that new guests can take a seat. That did not happen in every case. An elderly couple with a dog came in and wanted to take a seat at such an uncleared table and were simply left standing with the host's rather harsh words that he had a "dog allergy". We just looked at each other ... The quality of the food, which was served in the meantime, was nothing to complain about. Other customers who came in were kept short with a reference to the kitchen closing time. Two tables thereupon only ordered a sausage with bread. And we weren't there sometime around midnight, no, it was best dinner time at 8 p.m. Again we were very surprised ... After dinner we ordered two small vodka, which were also delivered very quickly. The pub was now noticeably emptying. Another table was occupied with us, and orders were also placed at this table. Seized by the restlessness of the restaurant, we decided to pay too. Then the landlord came quickly and presented the bill and mentioned that the vodka would be added, he just didn't have it on the bill. Well, they are drunk, so they get paid. But 2 big ones ... Mh! One does not assume anything bad to anyone and why the landlord has pulled the bar, let's call it empty, that only he knows! On a Friday around 8:30 p.m.! In any case, it is a lesson to us, even if we are long-standing customers, soon we will first see who is serving and only then decide to stop. Should this host be on duty again, we will move on. After all, there are even more restaurants where you can have dinner on a Friday evening and start your weekend in comfort. Food good, service unsatisfactory!

On October 4th we wanted to have a beer on the terrace of the restaurant in the sun. Twice we were informed by the staff that there was service outside. A waitress didn't appear, so we left after 15 minutes.

Formerly a narrow towel, affectionately called by the locals and students. Very good original Thuringian cuisine at good prices and nice staff, cult pub, you should definitely visit, a must for former students.

I have to disagree with many reviews here. The waiter is fast and friendly. There are corona measures. They are taking customer contact data and the waiter is wearing a mask.

as a Weimar citizen I've always been here the towel is just a bench. today the boss threw the shop alone, it can take a while ... never mind. There's hardly a better place for the Mutzbraten!

The beer tasted good and the waiter was friendly. No trace of corona measures such as disinfecting the tables, collecting guest data, etc. I had finished eating my crispy, dry fried liver when my wife's salad (!) Was still not served.

Great food. Great atmosphere. And you have a distance of 1.50 m from all guests. That gives a feeling of space.

A quaint restaurant with rock solid cuisine. Very full accordingly long waiting times. The landlord was not unfriendly, but served regular customers much faster and exchanged only the most necessary words with us, since he had to handle the counter and service alone. To sit comfortably and enjoy a little something but a very nice place.

Locally in central Lage.Hier can eat outside while watching the people 😉. The food tastes very good and the portions are great for the price. Service is fast and friendly. We can absolutely recommend the restaurant
